For migrating from Windows XP - which is close to 70% of desktops today - to Windows 7, consumers will require a ‘clean’ install of the new operating system. Users will need to re-install their popular browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, AOL, Internet Explorer and others and potentially lose the bookmarks and history of their favorite places on the Internet.

Follow these easy steps to it and windows 7 migrate your bookmarks and favorites when you upgrade to Windows 7.

STEP 1: Open AOL Mail and click the Tools button located at the top of the window. Once the Tools menu opens, select Options.

STEP 2: Highlight the messages and then select the appropriate email client from the Select Program window.

STEP 3: Click the Maintenance tab in the Options menu and then select Store Folder. After that, you will need to select the folder location and hit Ctrl + C to copy the folder’s path name. Next, close out of the dialog box by clicking Cancel twice.

STEP 4: Click the Start button located at the bottom-left corner of the screen. Once the Start menu opens, click Run. Click the text field and hit Ctrl + V on your keyboard to paste the previously copied location. Click OK to display the content of the location.

STEP 5: Select the Edit button at the top of the screen and click Select All. After doing that, click Edit again and select Copy. Close the window.

STEP 6: Next, create a folder on your hard drive that will contain the backed up data. Provide it a suitable name.

STEP 7: Do a clean installation of Windows 7 on your system.

In another development, available for both Firefox and Internet Explorer, Xmarks automatically and without effort co-ordinates bookmarks between PCs and the Web.

If you are already using it, you just need to install the program in your new Windows 7 partition, sign into your account, and presto: All your bookmarks will appear in your browser.

If you have not use Xmarks earlier, begin by booting back into your earlier edition of Windows, installing Xmarks, and setting up an account. Then you can jump back into Windows 7 and install Xmarks.

You can copy bookmarks using other ways, but this is by far the fastest and easiest and you get the additional benefit of having a password-protected copy of your bookmarks on the Web which you can access from any PC.
